The
US of 1776 searched for a symbolic figure to represent the image of the Nation. A mythical
woman- Columbia (the feminine form of Columbus)- became that symbol.
Kings College in NY changed its name to Columbia
University.....Washington added the subtitle -District of Columbia- to it's name.
This label shows Columbia (America) freeing Cuba from
